2010 IN REVIEW

To the "Friends of Long Straw Ranch", a quick update on 2010 and some information on coming events...

First, I'd like to express my appreciation to you all for joining us at Long Straw Ranch for one or more hunting expeditions this last year.  A total of 50 hunters joined us for dog training, quail hunts, and pheasant tower shoots.

It was great to see you all and we look forward to hosting you again in the future...

HABITAT IMPROVEMENTS

Prescribed Burn at LSR

As many of you know, improvements are underway to keep improving our habitat for that most finicky of birds, the Bobwhite Quail.

In 2010, we conducted a Prescribed Burn on one field and then plowed and planted it with a combination of Bluestem, Partridge Pea, Sideoats Grama and Sunflower.

I think this will be a very productive field for us in 2011...

HUNTING SEASON ISN'T OVER!

Hunters Afield!

As a licensed game preserve, we can keep chasing quail and pheasant until it's too hot for the dogs.  SO, we'll keep quail on hand through the end of March at least.

Scheduling a hunt over Ronnie Smith's dogs just takes a phone call and a little schedule flexibility but is well worth the effort.

As many of you know, our property is well-suited as a training ground for inexperienced hunting dogs...
